Sustainable mobility – that’s what KRN Kommunalverkehr Rhein-Nahe GmbH stands for. In order to ensure the switch to electric mobility and shorten the distance between the buses and their destinations, expansion was essential for KRN.
At the new location in Wörrstadt, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, the official construction start of the new electric bus depot was celebrated with a groundbreaking ceremony on February 6, 2026. It is the first bus depot for electric buses in Rhineland-Palatinate. In addition to parking spaces, a workshop, and a bus wash, the approximately 13,500 m² site will also accommodate modern administrative offices, among other things. In total, there will be space for 60 e-buses and 120 employees.
The building permit for the project was granted at the end of 2025, six months after the draft plans were submitted, which the team at Dr. Schönheit + Partner developed together with KRN in just 10 weeks. It is not only the extraordinary architecture of the buildings that is particularly noteworthy in the planning. Above all, the existing space and the available budget are being used in the best possible way.
“In line with our integrated approach, our team worked out the optimal planning for the processes and buildings at the new KRN location in a very short time. We are now looking forward to accompanying the construction work until completion,” says Tobias Schroeders, Director Architecture / Authorized Signatory, Dr. Schönheit + Partner.
