WHAT DO YOU DO AT S + P?
I have been working at S + P for almost 2 years as a student trainee in architecture and mainly support the team in drawing plans or creating 3D models, i.e. CAD-BIM. But that’s not all: I also have the opportunity to contribute my own creative ideas in the form of designs and give new impetus to our projects. My role is not limited to supporting activities. I also have the opportunity to accompany my colleagues to meetings and gain valuable experience in dealing with clients. I also have the chance to take on smaller tasks, such as presenting different office concepts or the latest trends in the industry. At S + P you are introduced to new challenges step by step. Every day brings new learning opportunities and exciting challenges that allow me to grow both professionally and personally.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR WORK?
I particularly enjoy drawing. It allows me to switch off for a moment and concentrate on the process, for example when creating a site plan. But I also like working with the consultants who are responsible for optimizing work
processes. Sharing and working together allows me to not only design for myself, but also to keep in mind the well-being of the people who will be working in these spaces. It’s about the quality of life I create with my work and how I can improve the environment. It’s important to me to make a positive difference for people.
WHAT IS THE CHALLENGE OF YOUR WORK?
In times of increased demands, for example when a deadline is approaching and we all know that the work has to be done by that date, the situation can sometimes become a bit challenging. But that pressure is also motivating in a way. And even when things get hectic, thanks to our good coordination and communication, everyone is always on the same page and can make the right decisions and deliver results quickly.
HOW DOES THE TEAM WORK TOGETHER?
Cooperation within the team is very good, with interdisciplinary exchange playing a particularly important role. This is especially evident in our cross-divisional projects, when it comes to creating something new. In such cases, we have to keep an eye on the entire workflow, understand the value stream and make sure that everything runs smoothly. The information from factory planning is particularly important for the architecture team. Close communication with the team helps us understand what is feasible and what is not. And our factory planning colleagues understand the concepts and ideas behind our architectural designs. In this way, we make sure that everyone is on the same page and willing to compromise. This works very well, because everyone involved has a strong interest in each other and in their respective areas of expertise. The day-to-day work offers many opportunities to gain insight into other areas. In contrast to pure architecture firms, we get a broader perspective here and can exchange ideas both professionally and personally – an enrichment for all of us.
WHAT DO YOU APPRECIATE MOST ABOUT S + P?
I especially appreciate the cohesion within the student group. I think this is mainly due to our weekly student meetings, but also to the fact that we spend time together outside of work and therefore know each other’s strengths. I think it’s good that S + P encourages student interaction and sees potential in us to move the company forward and bring in fresh ideas. I also appreciate the fact that we students are always involved and that our opinions are taken into account. The management also shows a genuine interest in our feedback and takes our opinions seriously. An example of this is the fact that we students are allowed to attend customer meetings.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME?
I am always motivated to learn new things and take on new challenges. For example, I like to try new sports, like I did with badminton recently. Three years ago I started playing volleyball – I appreciate the team spirit because everyone in the team has a responsibility. And the social aspect isn’t neglected either. Furthermore, I like to travel, go for walks or take the subway to explore the area and see the architecture.
WHAT INTERESTS YOU OUTSIDE OF WORK?
I am very interested in environmental issues. I am particularly interested in how we can achieve a more sustainable lifestyle by making small changes in our daily lives. Even though I’m not perfect in all areas, I’m working on developing more sustainable habits step by step. I also think it’s great that here at S + P we have the opportunity to contribute ideas on how we can make everyday working life more sustainable, and that S + P is taking responsibility for this.
WHAT SAYING / QUOTE MOTIVATES YOU? WHAT IS YOUR MOTTO IN LIFE?
My motto in life is “live and let live” because I believe that everyone is perfect in their own way, just the way they are. I don’t have to like everything other people like. But I am very interested in other people’s opinions, even if they don’t agree with mine. I think it’s nice when everyone lives together in harmony. At the same time, I don’t see conflicts as negative per se, because they offer the chance to find solutions together and thus restore harmony.
WHAT CAN YOU NOT DO WITHOUT IN YOUR DAILY LIFE?
Volleyball is indispensable for me, it is almost like an addiction. My family is also very important and irreplaceable. They always come first and are always there for me. In general, I couldn’t do without people who are important to me and whom I like.
