Dr. Schönheit + Partner developed the foundational and design planning for a new canteen including a conference area for Hydro Aluminium. The new 1,767 m² building serves as a visitor reception and event venue in addition to catering for employees. The project was planned with an investment amount of €7.6 million after cost optimization.
The cafeteria was designed as the central hub of the plant, used 12 hours a day. The goal was to create a flexible space structure that allows for multifunctional use through partitionable areas. Additionally, the integration of a potential expansion of the administrative building was taken into account.
Our experts supported the project up to the design planning stage (service phase 3). The design features a light open architecture with large glazed areas to optimize daylight use. The marketplace-like central zone separates the functional and seating areas, creating a vibrant atmosphere. The façade, with its post-and-beam construction, emphasizes the vertical structure, while the roof cantilevers out to provide sun protection. The red brick material ties in with the existing buildings and seamlessly connects the interior and exterior spaces.
