Plant expansion with multi-story production
POLOPLAST GmbH & Co KG, Leonding, Austria
As part of POLOPLAST’s growth strategy Dr. Schönheit + Partner developed a master plan for the plant expansion. In the first implementation phase, a multi-story production facility was planned to the approval stage. Through a strategic reorganization of the new building, the central entrance to the plant was strengthened, along with the inclusion of a new cafeteria.
In the first phase of the master plan, the existing facility was to be directly expanded in two areas. On the one hand, the existing office spaces were to be extended and supplemented with meeting and social rooms. In direct connection with the expansion, a new production area was to be built over two levels, with space for production-related administration on the periphery.
The existing main entrance to the plant was supplemented by an elevated canteen area and further emphasized by the associated generous opening of the façade The existing access situation could thus be retained as far as possible.
In addition to the office space and meeting and social rooms, the storage and logistics areas were to be expanded with a further extension The prerequisite for this was the option for a high-bay warehouse, which is why the extension includes a height offset in the eaves height.
Three implementation steps were planned until the complete master plan was finalized. The first implementation step was the most complex: the direct extension to existing structures was to be completed with this construction in order to minimize the effort for subsequent extensions as. The extension areas of the new buildings for the next construction tasks were therefore planned in a straightforward manner and already prepared for the expansion. The building application for this first step was submitted accordingly.
