Production and logistics expansion
VACUUBRAND GmbH & Co. KG, Wertheim, Germany
The new VACUUBAND Lean Factory (VLF) was developed on the existing company premises in Wertheim, Germany, and expanded by approximately one-third, adding 2,400 m² of production space. The investment volume amounted to 16.3 million euros.
Becoming Industry 4.0-ready - that was the goal set for the transformation of the existing production facility into the “VACUUBRAND Lean Factory”. The challenge was to expand the production facility during ongoing operations, while at the same time setting up an automated small parts warehouse. In addition, the project included a series of workflow modernizations, which were carried out in close collaboration with our factory planning experts.
The team from Dr. Schönheit + Partner took on the overall and integrative planning in all phases of this construction project.
The expansion of the existing production area included the construction of an automated small parts warehouse (ASPW), a technical building equipment building and an outdoor facility. The extension to the production hall was erected as a prefabricated structure during ongoing operations. With a length of 100 meters and a floor area of 2,500 m², the building is directly adjacent to the existing production facility. The heating and cooling systems for the entire industrial complex were housed in the new technical building, which was erected on a sprinkler tank with a capacity of 800 m³. The ASPW is located on a 550 m² concrete slab, supported by vibro-compacted columns. The façade was designed in a futuristic masonry structure. Inside, visitors have the opportunity to observe the ASPW operations from a viewing platform through a large display window.
In 2015, the ground-breaking for the largest construction measures in VACUUBRAND’s history on its company-owned premises.
VACUUBRAND is part of the BRAND Group and manufactures the world's most comprehensive product family for vacuum generation, measurement and control for the rough and fine vacuum range in the laboratory.
The transition to the VACUUBRAND Lean Factory has been enormous. It was an exciting and challenging task that we, together with Dr. Schönheit + Partner, were able to accomplish with excellent results by integrating the various engineering disciplines. The "S + P Integrated" concept convinced me.
