Revitalization of a Canteen

Vorwerk SE & Co. KG,  Wuppertal, Germany

With the aim of renovating the existing canteen, Vorwerk commissioned Dr. Schönheit + Partner to design and implement a new dining room including the adjacent restrooms. This was to not only invite employees to linger and relax during their lunch break, but also enable multifunctional use of the canteen space for in-house exhibitions, staff meetings, or corporate celebrations.

Tasks and objectives

The team at Dr. Schönheit + Partner was entrusted with the complete planning of this project, from service phase 1 to construction management in phase 8. The aim was to clearly structure the food service area with the adjacent dining hall and the associated sanitary facilities and to create a meeting place by using warm, modern materials.

Approach and solutions

As part of the basic evaluation, the foundational requirements were first defined. The draft was then submitted for approval planning, and the execution and tendering documents were prepared.

By using wood as the predominant material, our architectural planners created an inviting atmosphere. Room dividers separate the food serving area and seating areas into clear zones. In addition, a meeting room was integrated almost imperceptibly through the clever arrangement of room dividers. Furthermore, the sanitary facilities were completely renovated and now match the modern look of the canteen.
